Hashimoto's disease

So some of you have read last week that I had hypothyroidism. I was surprised at how many of you have it to. Seams to be common with women. Well I TriCare (army) insurance and they make you go see their Dr. before you can go see a specialist. To make sure your not full of it lol. He thinks I have something called Hashimoto's disease. Which I love to say... ha she mo toe. In a nut shell its saying that I have both hypo and hyper thyroidism.

Hashimoto’s disease is an autoimmune disorder, meaning the body’s immune system attacks its own healthy cells and tissues. In Hashimoto’s disease, the immune system makes antibodies that attack cells in the thyroid and interfere with their ability to produce thyroid hormone. Large numbers of white blood cells called lymphocytes accumulate in the thyroid. Lymphocytes make the antibodies that drive the autoimmune process.

Symptoms

  • Fatigue and sluggishness
  • Increased sensitivity to cold
  • Constipation
  • Pale, dry skin
  • A puffy face
  • Hoarse voice
  • An elevated blood cholesterol level
  • Unexplained weight gain
  • Muscle aches, tenderness and stiffness, especially in your shoulders and hips
  • Pain and stiffness in your joints and swelling in your knees or the small joints in your hands and feet
  • Muscle weakness, especially in your lower extremities
  • Excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia)
  • Depression
  • etc

More or less I have about half of they symptoms. Now as a mom you can't let depression or lack of sleep get to you. So while I might have that too I don't show it and let it get to me. I just want to reassure everyone that I am not some depress cranky mom that wants nothing to do with anyone.

So in about a week I will be able to find out who my Dr. is and start getting this taken care of. They say most of the time you would just need to take a pill.... That's it I can do that!
