Hypothyroidism and my struggle with it
Hi there every one I am going to take you on a trip of what hypothyroidism is and how I have been dealing with it and what is next to come. I have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism for over four years now. When I first found out that I had it the Dr. really did not do much, did not tell me what is was or how bad it was. They just put me on some meds for a month and that was the end of it. Lets start off with telling you what a thyroid is, where it is and what it does.
I am not going to boor you with the mumbo jumbo of everything but I'll give you the base. As you can tell from this picture your thyroid is in your neck. (Thyroid and thyroid gland is the same thing)
What your thyroid gland does:
The thyroid putts out hormones that help the body make energy, keep body temperature and regulated and assist other organs in their function. The thyroid produces two major hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine, commonly referred to as T3 and T4.
So I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism four years ago and was never really treated for it. I had a Dr. that really did not tell me much about it. So after that I did not think much of it. Up until after Aiden was born.
I have a few friend that have it also and when they where telling me how tired they where all the time and some of the other symptoms they where having. I thought to myself that I have the same problems but I did not think it was because of my thyroid.
Symptoms of hypothyroidism can include:
- Poor feeding
- Poor growth
- Excessive tiredness
- Easy fatigue, exhaustion
- Poor tolerance to cold temperatures
- Constipation
- Carpal tunnel syndrome (pain at the wrists and numbness of the hands)
- Poor appetite
- Weight gain
- Dry skin
- Hair loss
- Puffiness around the eyes
- Depression
- Irregular menstrual periods or lack of menstrual periods
Well now that you know what a Thyroid is and what it does. I will tell you more tomorrow on why I am now going to get this taken care of, and it has everything to do with breastfeeding and getting pregnant.
