Pea soup its whats for dinner

My husband loves to cook. So today he thought he would make Pea soup. This is something I have never had before and I really scared to try, only because it does not look that great. But I was surprised at how good it really was.

Here is what you need:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • 1 pound dried split peas
  • 1 pound ham bone
  • 1 pinch salt and pepper to taste

Directions

In a medium pot, saute onions in oil. Add the split peas, ham bone, and enough water to cover ingredients; season with salt and pepper.

Cover, and cook until there are no peas left, just a green liquid, 2 hours. While it is cooking, check to see if water has evaporated. You may need to add more water as the soup continues to cook.

Once the soup is a green liquid remove from heat, and let stand so it will thicken. Once thickened you may need to heat through to serve.

Here is a note on where to get a ham bone and why. We all know of The honey baked ham store right? Well they sell ham bones there for $6 and there is about 2lbs of meat.

It was a good dinner and I am glad that he made it for me.
