Survival of the Smartest Book review

Do you all remember a few weeks ago I posted something about a 72 hour kit? If you don't remember it here is the link to part one and part two. I can't stress to you all enough how important it is to be prepared.

Well to go along with that I got to do a review on a book called "Survival of the Smartest" by Aaron Turpen. The book is all about being ready for floods, tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes and even financial collapse.

What I like the best about this book is that he outlines the main ideas in the first chapter:

  • Get a 72 hour kit together
  • turn off your utilities (I had never thought about that before)
  • keeping your head during the emergency
  • and more
It is really important that you do not freak out during the emergency. It will get you no where. I love Aaron's three rules of the first three minutes.

3 Rules for the 1st 3 Minutes:
1. Do not panic!
2. Assess the situation quickly.
3. React accordingly and without emotion.

There may be a lot of things you are going to have to deal with, and if it is a natural dasater, be prepared that you might see death first hand. But be strong you can get do it. You may even be needed to help some one who is hurt. Which is why you should learn all about CPR too.

Another good point that Aaron talks about that I did not think of is to drilling your kids on escape routes, and what to do if they get lost. Find a safe place that you can all meet up at. Remind them often of this place. Kids do not always understand what is going on or why but if you teach them what to do to be safe they will also be prepared.

With so many thing that have already happened just this year; tsunami, earthquakes and all of the tornadoes I really think it is wise to get this book. There is just so much information in here that I just can't say it all. The book is only $19.97 and I can tell you it's the best $19.97 you will ever spend.
