Green smoothies and other green things;)

Ok, I know that's an odd title, but it's fitting. ;)
As an aspect of eating more healthily, I've been incorporating green smoothies into my diet almost every day. The basis of my smoothie theory is: if it's extremely healthy, such as a fruit or vegetable or nut, it's going into the blender! I know: extremely gourmet. You need to have a fairly decent blender for this if you're going to start throwing in things like carrots.
Here's a picture of my latest endeavor.

It has spinach, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, celery, hemp seeds, sliced almonds, chia gel, an apple, an orange, water and a little POM juice. It was sooo filling and I kept an extra Nalgene bottle in the fridge for later. There's probably no way I could eat that much healthy food at once, but blended up, it's very easy to get those vital nutrients.  The nuts and seeds provide healthy fat, extra fiber and protein to help sustain you longer, regulate blood sugar and they just help a smoothie pack more of a nutritional punch in general. If you have a smoothie in the morning, at least you know you've started your day off healthily and consumed a good chunk of your daily quota of fruits and vegetables. :)

On another note, I saw these at the supermarket this week.

Oh yes. Princess grapes. Usually cutesy character advertising is done for really unhealthy, processed foods. I was happy to see it on something nutritious for kids, because let's face it, sometimes you need the extra help to get your kids eating healthily. And for myself, to choose between a plain old bag of grapes and the PRINCESS grapes.. guess which one I obviously chose? :) And I'm an adult. Ahem.

Last but not least, when venturing into the world of healthy eating, sometimes you need to go out on a limb and try new things. Like these babies.

I haven't used them yet, but they are a type of Asian mushroom (I believe) and I plan on throwing them in a soup. It won't kill me! Hopefully...:)

Or sometimes, you just need to try healthy foods in different ways so you don't get sick of them. Take brussel sprouts, for example. In my brother's world, those are bad words put together. :) I love them! However, they can get boring if you just steam them. So, I roasted them! Mist a cookie sheet with nonstick spray, wash and trim your brussel butts (yep, I just went there), toss with olive oil, salt and pepper, and roast them at 350 for about 25 mins. You can turn them over about 2/3 of the way through. Here's what they should look like.

They were so phenomenal, I don't know if I can even go back to steamed. *^_^*

I hope everyone is doing well. I'm interested to hear what YOU like to do to get in your fruits and veggies. Any favorite recipes? How do you eat healthily? Also, would you be interested in seeing more recipes on this blog?

Take care, everyone!

Awesome, I've never saw those Disney Princess grapes either. I'm surprised they didn't call them "jewels" or something like that instead of grapes. I'm also an adult & would also choose the Princess grapes, too.
