Potty training Aiden, the good the bad and the wet

We have been potty training Aiden off and on for a few months now. We started even before he turned two. While we where not expecting him to get it we just wanted him to become comfortable with the idea of sitting on the potty, and he was doing great. That is until baby brother came around, then he wanted to be the baby again. We had started to teach Aiden sign language when he was about six months. I had won a babysigns set awhile back and just put the DVD on in the background. So when it came to potty training, I saw that they had a potty DVD too.

We stared him off watching it and he wanted to sit on the potty too. While most of the time at first he just sat there and did not pee he was getting the idea. Well the last few weeks Aiden has gotten over the fact that there is a new baby here and he is ready to be a big boy again.

So I went to the store and got sticker, hats, M&M's anything I could think of that might help him feel special when he went potty. The next day I put him in a underwear and was ready for him to pee his pants! But he did not, we took him to the potty every 15-20 mins till he got the idea. Then when he did pee in the potty we tried to give him and M&M and he did not want it!

Really a child who does not want M&M?!?!? However he did love that we said, "Yay you went pee pee in the potty!" And that was all he needed! Man Aiden your a cheep potty training kid!

Well after two days he did not pee in his underwear, but he did poop. I know that that might take longer to learn. I was so proud of him. We even went as far to take him out in his underwear and he did ok. He peed a little but told us right away so we could get him to a potty.

Then right as we think he is 80% potty training, he pees everywhere. We kept asking him and making him go ever 20 mins or so. But right after he said he was done on the potty, he would pee. And not just on the ground, he could sit on your lap and pee on you.

So now we are back to watching the babysigns "All Aboard the Potty Train". This set comes with books, stickers, a train whistle and a DVD.

So now I am back to square one and working on potty training again. Any of you find any good tip that help? What did you do? Mind you Aiden is all 27 months, so he just turned 2 in November.

I don't know the secret to potty training. My little guy mostly potty trained, but if we have certain guests, he regresses. I'm not sure why. We will be potty trained for a month and then all of the sudden, he starts wetting again. I'll have to check out the potty train stuff that you used. It looks cool!
oh how I remember those days! I taught a 2 yr old preschool program and I potty trained a LOT of kids!
Don't have any potty training kids anymore but we always used the cheerio method and it was a big hit.

I don't think there is a real secret to potty training. I just encouraged my kids and as a former preschool teacher I can tell you one thing: they will do it when they are ready. And one friend gave me this advice, "have you ever met a Kindergartner who isn't potty trained?" So keep up the good work and he'll catch on
This brings back memories however it has been 10 years so I don't have any tips for you, as I don't remember. I just know my daughters were slower and my son picked it oup right away. I suggest making a game out of it and dropping some cheerios in the bowl for him to aim at. Otherwise just let him go at his own pace.
