Dr. Cool Bug Excavation Kit

I work at a preschool and have noticed that many preschoolers have a fascination for bugs. So I was happy when I had the chance to review a Bug Excavation Kit from Dr. Cool. I knew that this would be something that my 4 year old son would enjoy doing.
Beetle Shape digging block with digging tools, and magnifying class.
I decided that this kit would be something fun for my kids 7, and 4 to do with their 11 year old and 3 year old cousins. So we took the kit over to Grandma's house to do. My 4 year old could hardly wait until his cousins arrived in order to do the kit.

They did the kit outside on top of a newspaper. The kids each had fun taking the digging tools and digging away at the beetle shaped digging block to uncover and find different bug specimens. The first bug that they discovered was a scorpion.

The scorpion was inside a glass type rock that protected it and kept it safe. After uncovering the scorpion you could use the magnifying glass to get a better look at the bug.

Other bugs that came in the kit included a spiny spider and a fortune beetle. The kit also contained an activity book with mazes and other activities to do. Also included was an information booklet that told about the bug specimens found in the kit including where they are commonly found and other interesting facts about them.

The younger kids (3, and 4) dug for a little bit, but got distracted. Leaving much of the digging to their older cousin. Even he had to dig quite a bit before uncovering the bugs.

This kit is a great way to introduce your kids to bugs and science. All the kids involved had fun learning about the bugs.
