Make your own Popsicles

This is Chris, he is two and a half. He may look like any other toddler but he has some special medical needs. On top of being autistic, he has a GI disorder called congenital sucrase isomaltase deficiency ( CSID ) yes it's a mouth full. What it means is his body does not make the enzyme to process sugar or starch. It's like he is allergic to sugar and starch. He gets very ill if he eats anything with sugar in it. That include natural foods with too much sugar. Poor kid can't even eat a carrot. Because of this disorder we have to make most of his snacks at home. Because its almost impossible to find a ready made snack he can have. If we do find a snack its not always organic or non gmo, we try to keep him on as healthy of a diet as we can because it helps his stomach and reduces meltdowns. (we suspect the meltdowns are because he doesn't feel well and is unable to tell us)

One of the things he can have is an Honest Kids Juice. Living in Arizona it is still hot out. So I was trying to find fun new summer time snacks. I got some Kuuk Silicone Popsicle Molds and used the juice to make him a CSID safe snack. The molds come in a four pack, and one juice pouch fills two molds. They are a great size, not too big for Chris. The colors are fun and the cap makes it easy to fill and freeze. I filled them and stuck them in the freezer standing up and they were ready to eat in a few hours. I have also made smoothies and put them in the mold to make a fun fruit pop.

Clean up was a breeze, all it took was a quick wash in some hot soapy water. No extra parts, or places for food to stick. The best part about the mold is you can pick what goes in it. No matter your child's allergies, or preferences you can make a snack your child with love with ingredients you are happy with.

We like making our own popsicles -- especially in the summer. I like it because we know what we're putting into them in addition to being able to mix flavors.

Wow, I can't imagine how much work it is to find foods low in sugar and starch! I'm glad that this juice works out for him!
